Prague is a great destination to travel with kids: see where to go with your family in the capital of Czech republic below!
1. Wander around the Old town
First of all, explore the Old Town of Prague with our little one! This part of the city is very fairytale-like, with all the Gothic spires, colorful houses, towers, and small passages: think of the Old Town Square, Astronomical Clock, Powder Tower, and Charles Bridge.
Make sure to try trdelnik, a Hungarian-born chimney cake that became a symbol of Prague.
2. Get surprised Museum of Senses
Museum of Senses is actually a small museum of illusions where you can explore illusions of all sorts, with the most famous sites being the Inverted Room, studying optical illusions, and Head on the Plate zone. With a toddler, this was a really fun visit!
3. Admire Prague zoo
Prague Zoo is one of the best things you can do in Prague with kids. The zoo opened in 1931 and is one of the nicest zoos I’ve been to (my first visit was like 17-18 years ago): it’s located on a hill, and you can literally walk miles there because it’s huge, and houses over 4000 animals!
The zoo is divided into different geographic areas and offers educational talks and meetings. Make sure you visit animal pavilions as they feel as if you’re really traveling through different areas of our planet; the Indonesian jungle and Elephant Valley were by far my favorites!
The zoo is very well known for its species preservation activities, with many animals breeding here in captivity as Przewalski’s horses or Chinese pangolins.
4. Visit Papilonia Butterfly House
Papilonia Butterfly House on the first floor of the Hamleys is another attraction in Prague for kids. You can walk among shining huge tropical butterflies, observe them eating, and – if you’re lucky – one of them might even land on you!
You can also add an educational vibe to your visit and learn about the life cycle of butterflies from egg to caterpillar, cocoon, and finally, a butterfly.
You might also like to bring your little one to the Museum of Jellyfish!
5. …and explore Hamleys too
I’m sure that if you have kids and you’ve been to London, a world-wide famous Hamleys store is on your radar! And in Prague, it’s with visiting too because that’s more than a shop.
There is a cafe, a merry-go-round, and some activities kids can do on the site – and ultimate must visit in Prague with children. And it’s located very centrally, on one of the main shopping streets called Na příkopě.
6. Say hi to Krtek
Krtek, or The Mole, is a character of a famous Czech cartoon series created by Zdeněk Miler and accompanied by music by Vadim Petrov (so you don’t always have to worry about not knowing the Czech language), and you must learn about this cartoon when going to Prague with kids!
The first episode, named How Little Mole Got His Trousers premiered in 1957 at the Venice festival and won two Golden Lions.
Last episode came out in 2001 (you can also encounter a more recent 3D version of The Mole with Panda produced after Miller passed away, but it has a completely different vibe).
I watched this series when I was a kid, and I was delighted to introduce my baby to it! You can spot the Mole and other characters from this series: Mouse, Rabbit, and Hedgehog, in the souvenir stores, book, and toy shops – why not treat your kid with a souvenir.
