Chelsea in bloom 2022: British Icons

Explore the majestic flower displays at Chelsea in bloom 2022!

By Anna Purpurpurpur

Annual street flower show happening between the 23rd till the 28th of May alongside with Chelsea Flower Show of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), returns to Chelsea in spring as it was in pre-pandemic times. Chelsea in Bloom 2022 is dedicated to something truly special: British Icons! As the Queen’s celebration of her Platinum Jubilee is just around the corner, nothing can be more exciting than the floral installation incarnation of the best of UK history.

British Icons

Let’s see the best displays of Chelsea in Bloom 2022 – I was lucky to be invited as one of the first ones to document it. Our visit started on the Sloane Square where the rickshaw ride began. There are a few routes you can explore such as the Jubilee Eggs, British Icons or the shops participating in the event(the map is here)

The majority of displays of Chelsea in Bloom festival are spread through the Sloane Square, Sloane Street, Pavilion road, Duke of York Square and King’s Road. There are a few major displays bringing the most iconic British vibes: Mad Hatters party, the Queen’s guard, vintage flower post box, Royal coat of Arms, floral Mini, Down the rabbit hole, the Queen’s bust and of course corgi!

Also I’ve collected the most impressive displays of the shops participating in the British Icons event. My favourites were corgis from Jo Malone, peonies stand from Cartier, umbrellas from Jigsaw, majestic installation by Hackett and the guard from the Stick’N’Sushi!

Many persons who shaped British culture and science are associated with Chelsea too. You can follow a special trail of blue pages that includes George Elliott, Dante Gabriel Rosetti, Bram Stoker, MarkTwain, Oscar Wilde, Lillie Langtry, George Godwin, Sylvia Pankhurst, Alan Alexandre Milne, Augustus John, Pamela Travers, Jane Austin, Sir Alexandre Fleming, Bob Marley, Samuel Beckett, Mary Quant, and Vivienne Westwood. As for the displays, don’t miss Bon Jovi and the Beatles!

The Ivy Chelsea Garden

The Ivy Chelsea Garden is always something extra – and now their display with a bear, zebra, chimpanzee and gorilla was demonstrating ‘Return to the wild’ theme.

Chelsea in Bloom 2022 is not the only event happening in the area this season. I attended a celebration of summer festive events in Chelsea at 11 Cadogan gardens, and there are so many dazzling events ahead of us:

  • Eggs of an Era, 16/05-02/06
  • Summer in the Square, until September
  • Chelsea in Bloom 2022, 23/05-28/05
  • Platinum Jubilee celebrations, 2/06-5/05
  • Nature’s Architects, 23/06-31/09
  • Strawberries&Screen, 8/07-10/07

British Icons at The Cadogan Arms

Say yes to the gastronomical British icons too! We tasted the very traditional menu of the Cadogan Arms celebrating British cuisine and local products. Of course, there were fish and chips, sticky pudding and a trifle! yumm 🙂

Tap to see how Chelsea in Bloom bloomed in 2021 (Extraordinary Voyages) and 2019 (Under the sea) in my previous blogs!

Hope you enjoyed my blog,
