Dazzling Chelsea Flowers

Chelsea flowers in Bloom dives deep this year – explore best Under the Sea displays in my post!

By Anna Purpurpurpur

London is completely covered in Chelsea flowers now, from Chelsea Flower Show to Chelsea in Bloom.

The latter one is absolutely free: all you have to do is just walk around Chelsea and observe meticulous floral decorations dedicated to the marine theme named “Under the sea” – yeah, I sing that Disney song in my head as well 🙂

It is organized by Cadogan and the Royal Horticultural Society and takes place from the 20th to the 25th of May celebrating the approaching summer.

Sloane Square, Pavilion road, Duke of York Square, and King’s Road are all densely packed.

Under the Sea works together with Plastic Oceans UK to battle the plastic pollution to the oceans, one of the most heartbreaking human influences on our planet.

Dozens of shops and restaurants are bursting with jellyfish, tentacles, and mermaid tails. I’ve even spotted live fish in round tanks in one place – not sure for how long they stay alive there though…

It’s quite hard to imagine that all these creatures – whales, turtles, orcas, starfish, dolphins – are made out of plants!

It wasn’t an easy task to choose my own favorite: there are so many incredible sculptures, arches, walls! However, I think I’d go for Space NK Apothecary, Hugo Boss, and Monica Vinader.

An expert panel of Chelsea in Bloom has already picked the winners as well:

  • Best Floral Display: Hackett
  • Highly Commended: Kiki McDonough AND Smythson
  • Innovation Award: Marshall Wace

The People’s Champion Award is Peter Jones (winner) and Hugo Boss (runners up). The whole list is available via this link.

Not only Chelsea flowers…

But the flower decorations stretch immensely out of Chelsea area. How would you rate this amazing floral installation right next to Harrods – at Harry’s Dolce Vita inspired by Botticelli’s Birth of Venus where I was kindly hosted? The Under the Sea theme even extends to their cocktails: Coral Reef cocktail & Laguna di Venezia!

And even more…

Just look at these decorations around Elizabeth street!

Let’s be honest: this area is always decorated with flowers (and always packed with bloggers taking photos – including myself:) ) but now it appears to be even more blooming than ever!

Besides that, I was privileged to be among the first people to see gorgeous Jamjar flowers flower decorations of London gate, the entrance to the Chelsea Flower Show! All the plants used are to be replanted and are bee-friendly!

Hope that you had a chance to explore London in Bloom yourself!

Hope you enjoyed this post!

Best, Anna
