Koh Madsum, known to tourists as Pig Island, is a small island approximately 30 minutes from Koh Samui by boat. As its name suggests, visitors come here to see the local residents - the pigs! Upon arrival, you pay a small entrance fee and get a bottle of water (as the pigs are extremely thirsty). Besides that, there are a few cafes where you can grab drinks and food for yourselt. You can also buy special food for the pigs - just grab a plastic plate and serve it to them.We were lucky enough to see over a dozen piglets while we were there!
But how did the pigs get here? No one knows for sure. Maybe they survived a shipwreck nearby, maybe they swam from the mainland, or maybe they were brought here solely to attract tourists. The most widely accepted story, however, is that a local bar owner saved four pigs from slaughter and brought them to the island. Overall, expect to spend 30-60 minutes here, or even longer if you’d like to sit and relax on the beach.
Since many people arrive on traditional long-tail boats, great views are guaranteed - just watch out for pig poo!💩

Check my new guide at purpurpurpur.co.uk - Bangkok, Thailand, p.2! Unsure where to go in Bangkok in the evening? Go on a river cruise! We booked the Super Galaxy, a 2.5-hour dinner cruise along the Chao Phraya River. While there are plenty of similar options, we chose this one for our night out. Each guest is assigned a table in advance, though you do need to collect your physical ticket well before boarding. Bangkok is at its prettiest at night, with all the illuminated bridges, palaces, and temples lining the water. On top of the views, our cruise featured live music from a Filipino band, a cabaret performance, and traditional Thai dances.

Guangzhou is not short of the most luxurious hotel options, but we decided to stay at the Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou, one of the gems of the city’s hospitality sector. One feature which really stood out for us was the Panda-themed suite, and as we travel with a kid, we had to go for it! George had a two story bed with a slide, numerous sweets, games, a Panda soft toy, and basically everything is panda or jungle-themed here, even his slippers. And this is our master bed with a panoramic view over Guangzhou. The MO has a decent breakfast selection in a stylish restaurant space – all you need before exploring the city! Of course, we made good use of the noodle station too. Some relaxing experiences are not to be missed as well – I had an amazing set of treatments (Chinese massage to let the Qi energy circulate through the meridians and a scrub) – and at the end you get this set of food to nourish your body. And how would you rate this outdoor pool?

Where to stay in Bahrain? The Raffles Al Areen Palace is an oasis in the desert located close to the Bahrain international circuit. This hotel is a hidden gem of the country for those who would like to spend some relaxing time in Bahrain in a extremely aesthetic environment. It looks like a real Arabic palace and has a nice territory with water flowing around, palm trees, frangipani and bougainvillea blooming and even a small flamingo lake. We stayed in a private villa – it’s the biggest villa I’ve ever stayed at so far! We had a courtyard with pool and jacuzzi, an inner and outer dining spaces, a reception, a bedroom, a walk-in wardrobe and a massive bathroom. Upon arrival, we had lovely fresh flowers and fruits delivered to our place – and I fall in love immediately with places that serve me rambutans. In villa dining in the Raffles Bahrain has fantastic selection of Arabic dishes as well as some Asian cuisine as a tribute to the iconic Raffles hotel Singapore. Besides that, I had an amazing body treatment with scrub, wrap and massage at the SPA village – highly recommended! For breakfast, you can choose hot dishes from the menu (like eggs, pancakes, waffles etc), and bread and some mezze are served per each table additionally. On some occasions like weddings taking place in a hotel there’s also a small buffet with pastries, cheeses, and fresh veggies and fruits. They also have a kids club, a nice cafe and a few restaurants available for the guests as well. Overall, our experience was extremely enjoyable, and I’d gladly return there.
