Munich is the prettiest German city I\u2019ve been to so far (sorry Cologne and Berlin)! Even its extraordinary museums by themselves make it worth a several-days-visit. But don\u2019t worry if you have just one day to spend in there: you can easily set your priorities on what you would like to choose.<\/span> Enjoy your stay in the Bavarian capital!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Munich\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Marienplatz<\/span><\/b><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Marienplatz has been the heart of Munich for almost 9 centuries since the city’s foundation. The square is framed by gorgeous historical buildings such as New and Old Town Halls<\/strong> (Neues Rathaus and Altes Rathaus\u00a0respectively). <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re lucky to pop into Marienplatz around noon or 5pm in summer (hours might differ in other seasons) you have an opportunity to discover several stories performed by the pretty colourful figures on the <\/span>Rathaus-Glockenspiel<\/span><\/strong>! What did you enjoyed the most: splendid wedding, tournament or Cooper\u2019s dance? Has the Bavarian or Lotharingen knight won this time?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pop into the courtyard of the New Town Hall for a Bavarian cream <\/strong>dessert – it’s delicious!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admire the Mariens\u00e4ule<\/strong> with the Virgin Mary on top at the column erected in 1638.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the way, the views from New Town Hall are just astonishing! You can easily access the roof via the elevator – just make sure that you have a ticket at hand \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peterskirche<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

St. Peter\u2019s Church is the oldest parish church just a step away from\u00a0Marienplatz. It was rebuilt many times and various architectural elements were added to it during its long existence. If you\u2019re ready to overcome 299 steps up to the\u00a0Alter Peter\u00a0church tower \u2013 the views from the top are said to be magnificent! Share your thoughts with me if you dare climbing it! As for me \u2013 it was a bit too much after taking over 24.000 steps around the city that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frauenkirche<\/span><\/b><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>Frauenkircheis a giant 15th century cathedral in the centre of Munich. It\u2019s title is translated as Cathedral of Our Dear Lady. Truly, you can see its twin towers from anywhere in the city!<\/span> The Emperor Louis IV\u2019s cenotaph<\/strong> strikes you immediately as soon as you enter the church. Unfortunately, I couldn\u2019t enjoy it to the fullest as a big part of it was covered in scaffolding. Fingers crossed, you\u2019ll be luckier than me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Interesting<\/em>: according to the legend, there is Devil\u2019s footstep near the entrance. Don\u2019t miss it!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odeonsplatz
<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Odeonsplatz <\/span>is younger than Marienplatz but by no means a less important square. It dates back to the early 19th century and you can easily feel that you\u2019re in Italy, not in Germany, judging by the surroundings: this square is adorned with picturesque buildings in Italian style. Three arches of Feldherrnhalle<\/strong> were for instance inspired by the Florentine Loggia dei Lanzi so favoured by Michelangelo.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odeonsplatz\u00a0was extremely important in the political life of Germany in the 20th century.\u00a0This is precisely the spot where the National Socialist German Workers’ Party’s (read – Nazi) march failed. The so-called Beer Hall Putsch<\/strong> with the Adolf Hitler as the leader was met with state military forces here on the 9th of Nov in 1923.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I was deeply impressed by the bright yellow\u00a0Theatinerkirche St. Kajetan<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span>It\u2019s such a marvellous example of a high Baroque style built in 17th century!<\/mark><\/span> <\/mark><\/span>It was meant to express the gratitude of Bavarian Elector\u00a0Ferdinand\u00a0Maria and his wife\u00a0Princess Maria Henriette Adelaide of Savoy\u00a0for the birth of their heir Maximilian (later \u2013\u00a0Maximilian\u00a0II) as for the long time their marriage was childless.\u00a0<\/mark><\/span>Quite a few Bavarian Royal family members of the House of\u00a0Wittelsbachare buried here.<\/mark><\/span> <\/mark><\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It definitely has one of the most impressive interiors I\u2019ve ever seen inside the church in my life – see the slides to discover why! <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are into the world history of 20th century, don\u2019t miss the <\/span>Hofbr<\/span>\u00e4<\/span>uhaus am Platzl<\/span>. <\/span>Many famous people liked to pop into this <\/span>beer hall\u00a0<\/span>including Mozart and Lenin. But it\u2019s probably most known know as a place that witnessed Hitler’s rise to power in 20s.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bayerische Staatskanzlei <\/span><\/b><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

 <\/span>Have a glimpse at the magnificent Bavarian State Chancellery<\/strong> that st pretty close to the <\/span>Odeonsplatz<\/span>and <\/span>Hofgarten<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Englischer Garten <\/span><\/b>and <\/span><\/b>Eisbach<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you are a sceptic when it comes to trusting photoes on internet (like I am), then I must honestly reassure you: no, it\u2019s not a Photoshop. The serfers really enjoy the <\/span>Eisbach <\/span><\/strong>wave<\/strong> right on the side of <\/span>Englischer Garten<\/span><\/strong>. And they are really cool!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/b><\/b>\"\"<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

 <\/span>If the weather is nice, stroll along the <\/span>Englischer Garten<\/span>, a huge and pretty public park in Munich! It\u2019s one of the largest of its kind in the whole world! I wish we had some tea at the Japanese teahouse<\/strong> but unfortunately in was closed.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maximilianstra<\/span><\/b>\u00df<\/span><\/b>e<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Walk along the Maximilianstra\u00dfe, one out of four main city boulevards – you’ll enjoy your walk for sure. <\/span>Spot its beautiful monuments such as Maxmonument<\/strong>, National Theatre<\/strong> and Regierung von Oberbayern<\/strong> too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karlsplatz<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Karlsplatz is another pretty square in Munich full of amazing fountains. Karlstor<\/strong>\u00a0(on the photo) is the surviving part of the ancient defensive city wall – it still looks impressive doesn’t it? And if you have time – make sure you visit Alte Pinakothek<\/strong> in Munich\u00a0– one of the best collections of the Old Master paintings awaits you there!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nymphenburg Palace<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The last but not the least unmissable attraction in Munich is the\u00a0Nymphenburg Palace<\/a><\/span>. This Castle of Nymphs served as a summer residence of the Royal family. It\u2019s a real architectural marvel with an unmistakably regal attitude!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Gallery of beauties (<\/span>Sch\u00f6nheitengalerie<\/span><\/strong>) hosts 36 portraits of women from the noble and middle classes. It’s a real must-see if you appreciate the beauty! If your schedule is tight, make sure you keep an eye on your watch as you can easily loose count of time and <\/span>get lost while exploring this 200-hectare park.<\/span> Gondola ride along the central park canal might also be of an interest to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four pavilions in the park – \u00a0Amalienburg, Badenburg, Pagodenburg <\/strong>and\u00a0Magdalenenklaus<\/strong>e – are amazing!\u00a0<\/span>For instance, how pretty is this Magdalenenklause? It is intentionally made to look like as a ruin from the outside (it was in fashion that time) – who would’ve guessed that it\u2019s artificial? It also hosts the moody Grotto Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene.<\/span> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Botanical gardens<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Botanical Gardens are compact but still adorable and worth a visit. I believe they must be even prettier when the glasshouses reopens after the refurbishment! See the slides for the waterlilies!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staying in Munich<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you decide to spend a night in Munich – believe me, you won’t regret this decision, as this city deserves it! We were kindly hosted by the Charles Munich Rocco Forte hotel<\/strong>, one of 11 luxury hotels worldwide managed by the Rocco family.<\/span> The location was very convenient for us: pretty close both to the city centre and to the Munich Central station. The views from rooms are astonishing, overlooking the Old Botanical gardens and Frauenkirche.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, I didn\u2019t have a chance to use their SPA facilities. Nevertheless, it was impossible not to notice the quality of the their own skin and body care lines and nice decorations of the pool. Breakfast is served in Sophia\u2019s restaurant – and both the food choice and the interiors were really impressive.<\/span> I wish I could stay there for longer!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
