If you ask me what are my favorite areas in London<\/a>, Little Venice and Maida Vale would be definitely in the top-three!<\/span><\/p>\n

The reason for that is not limited just to the fact that I live here. There are so many places to see: they would satisfy everyone including the most advanced instagrammers, history and art lovers, and people who love exploring and those who prefer resting and enjoying the sun. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shall we start?<\/span><\/p>\n

Where it all comes from?<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The name Little Venice hints that there should be a lot of water. And that\u2019s exactly how the things are! The famous Grand Union Canal<\/strong> is rolling over about 220 km long to connect London and Birmingham. The oldest parts of it are over 200 years old: the canal system wasn\u2019t constructed as a whole entity from the very beginning, and a lot of branches were added to the older ones as the time passed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Several branches of it – such as Paddington Basin<\/strong> and Regent’s canal<\/strong> – contributed to the area’s name. It\u2019s unknown who was the first person to come up with an idea of the calling this area “little Venice”. Some say that probably it was Robert Browning<\/strong> who lived here, others – that Lord Byron<\/strong> made a comparison between this part of London and La Serenissima. Choose the story that you like more \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Although, as some sources say, modern Little Venice area looks less venetian than it used to a century ago because the waterspace has been reduced over the years. If you are me, it\u2019s easier imagine that you\u2019re in Amsterdam from this angle!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Btw, this place is called Cafe Laville<\/strong> and we usually have breakfast here on Sundays if we\u2019re in town. (And yes, there are a lot of reflections when they close the terrace on colder days) Come and say hi if you happen to be around \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Among the other nice places to eat is Beany Green<\/strong>. This is an Australian chain of cafes around London – you might\u2019ve heard about Daisy Green for instance. Now they even have their own boat!<\/span><\/p>\n

There are a lot of activities in Little Venice you can join such as a boat trip<\/strong> or a marionnette show at Puppet theatre barge<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

St Mary’s hospital <\/span><\/h2>\n

The area around the Paddington station sometimes becomes flooded with journalists as St Mary’s hospital is located nearby. It\u2019s not just a spot where Fleming<\/strong> discovered penicillin, but it\u2019s also a birthplace for all Kate Middleton<\/strong>‘s and Prince William’s children \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are done exploring the canals, don\u2019t rush away, there are many more things to see here!<\/span><\/p>\n

Clifton Nurseries<\/span><\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Pop into the Clifton Nurseries<\/strong>. Established in 1851, it\u2019s famous for the choice of potted plants available to buy. Make a friend with Mrs Miggins<\/strong>, the local guardian and a beautiful cat indeed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Choose your preferred succulent at Palm House. <\/span><\/p>\n

Have a nice lunch at the Quince Tree Cafe<\/strong> – their food is really delicious. If you happen to visit in winter, don\u2019t miss a chance to explore their Christmas shop!<\/span><\/p>\n

Where else to eat?<\/h2>\n

If Quince Cafe is overbooked (that happens a lot) opt to the Formosa Street\u2019s the Prince Alfred<\/strong> Victorian pub, Elgin<\/strong> cafe near the Maida Vale tube station, or a stunning Warrington hotel<\/strong> & pub.<\/span><\/p>\n

The latest is an ultimate destination for an interior lover: its stained glass, vibrant colors and mosaic floors won\u2019t leave you unmoved!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Little\u00a0\"Little<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re are not satisfied with the cafes I\u2019ve already mentioned, try Le Cochonnet<\/strong> – they have the best pizza in London, I swear – or Georgian restaurant Tamada<\/strong> (5 min drive from the Lauderdale Road).<\/span><\/p>\n

What else to see around the Maida Vale? <\/span><\/h2>\n

While passing by, you can have a glimpse on\u00a0<\/span>BBC Maida Vale studio<\/strong>, s<\/span>plendid Lauderdale Road Synagogue (Ben-Gurion <\/strong>lived nearby!), t<\/span>he house where Waterhouse<\/strong>, one of my favorite painters, lived, and the b<\/span>lue plate at <\/span>2 Warrington Crescent – <\/span>on the house where Alan Turing<\/strong> was born.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re planning a walk, then turn your feets towards St\u2019 John\u2019s Wood.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abbey Road Crossing<\/span><\/h2>\n

Remember the Beatles<\/strong>‘ last album called Abbey Road and issued in 1969? And its cover? <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Well, you’ve already seen the Abbey Street crossing then that is located nearby. The Abbey Road Studio<\/a> Crossing is even protected by English Heritage now. Tourists continuously write greetings on the Studio walls and go shooting barefoot. Paul Mccartney still lives somewhere nearby.<\/span><\/p>\n

I must secretly confess that I hate this crossing. If you are in a car, you are trapped there for ever and ever after! \u2018Cause you should wait while there is no one on the crossing to pass and this never really happens.<\/p>\n

Interesting<\/em>: Filmmakers love Maida Vale area as well! For instance, if you\u2019ve seen the movies about Paddington Bear<\/em>, or\u00a0The Mummy<\/em> (the recent one with Tom Cruise) or Disobedience<\/em> (2017, with Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz) all of them were shot around there. Maida Vale was mentioned several times in Hitchcock\u2019s Dial M for Murder<\/em> as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

It all might sound nice but actually it\u2019s also notorious as all the residential parkings are getting suspended while filming is on<\/span><\/p>\n

St John’s Wood<\/span><\/h2>\n

St John’s Wood<\/strong> used to be a real wood many centuries ago but now it’s an expensive and prestigious area of London. Pop into one of the famous Ivy<\/strong> restaurants. Primrose Hill<\/strong> with its colorful doors and an amazing views over London is at easy walkable distance – about 15 min from the Ivy. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t be surprised if you see crowds and crowds of people with the vivid badges and particular colors – they usually head to Lord’s Cricket Ground<\/strong> from St. John\u2019s Wood Station. This cricket venue is over 200 years old and it\u2019s nicknamed \u2018A home of Cricket\u2019, so utterly British! and during London Olympic games it also housed the archery competition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Interesting fact<\/em>: it’s likely that Irene Adler<\/strong> from Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes lived in St. Johns Wood area.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regent’s Park<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

If you walk for a couple of minutes from the Lord\u2019s passing the London Central Mosque<\/strong>, you\u2019ll find yourself at the Regent’s Park<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Where else you can go nearby? London Zoo, Camden Market, Freud Museum, Baker street <\/strong>and Sherlock Holmes museum<\/strong> sound like some firm options.<\/span><\/p>\n
